Built in 1861 by the wealthy railroad backer for which the home is named, the Asa Packer Mansion is a wonderfully undisturbed example of Victorian architecture and life. Filled with the actual items once used by Asa and his immediate family, the historic residence is massive for a home of its time: standing three stories high and holding around 11,000 square feet of rooms. Set near the southern edge of town, the historic home is just a short drive away from the Old Jail Museum, where a guide-led tour through the prison offers a haunting and exciting experience.
